The thrill of white-water rafting is unmatched by any other outdoor activity. Venturing down stream experiencing the power of Mother Nature with uncertainty is a true adrenaline rush. The white water rafting in the Cusco region is awesome and there are locations for every category of rapids along the Vilcanota-Urubamba River. This makes for a great half-day family activity or a hardcore adventure lover’s week of fun in the sun and water.
Almost every tourist agency, hotel and hostel can help you arrange a whitewater rafting trip at the level and length you desire. Tours will include transportation, training, safety equipment, lunch and at least a few hours of fun on the Urubamba River twisting and turning through majestic Andes Mountains.
Although there are a number of companies that provide whitewater rafting services, there are a few good ones that will also provide a photographer. At the end of the day the photographer will compile the photos of you and your whitewater rafting friends and offer them to you for a good price. This is a perk that will save you the threat of ruining your own personal camera as well as giving you the opportunity to sit back and enjoy while someone else documents your fun.
Most tourists choose to do the one day whitewater rafting down the Urubamba, a trip that will last between seven and eight hours and take you down class II and class III rapids. There are also some multi-day adventure rafting that includes class IV and sometimes class V rapids if you want an opportunity to challenge yourself and make some new great friends along the way.
